China’s printing industry January-November 2021 business situation analysis

2021 January-November, the printing industry above-scale enterprises to achieve operating income, up 10.4%; to achieve total profits, down 2.5%. Profit growth rate continued to enter the negative growth range for 3 months.

  Recently, the National Bureau of Statistics disclosed the economic efficiency of industrial enterprises in January-November 2021. November, in the face of a complex and severe international environment and domestic epidemics emanating multiple challenges, industrial production continued to maintain the recovery trend, a number of indicators continue to pick up slightly.

  It should be noted that in the National Bureau of Statistics statistics, “printing and recording media reproduction industry” is one of the 41 major categories of industry. There are more than 5,000 above-scale enterprises (annual main business income of more than 20 million yuan) report their operations on a monthly basis, and the total annual revenue of these enterprises is more than 600 billion yuan, accounting for more than half of the overall revenue scale of the national printing industry.

  Based on this, the business performance of printing enterprises above the scale has become an important window to observe the development of the whole industry. With the help of this representative observation window, the Industry Research Center will disclose monthly statistics and analyze the dynamics of industry changes to help industry practitioners clarify the development trend and adjust their business strategies in a timely manner.

  1、Overall Trend Analysis

  From January to November 2021, the industrial value added of all industries (enterprises above the scale) grew by 10.1% year-on-year, with a two-year average growth of 6.1%. From the growth rate of the month, in November, industrial value added above the scale increased by 3.8% year-on-year, 0.3 percentage points faster than the previous month, the two-year average growth of 5.4%, 0.2 percentage points faster than the previous month, the growth rate continued the upturn in the previous month. 29 of the 41 major categories of industries maintained year-on-year growth in value added.

  January-November 2021, “printing and recording media reproduction industry” industrial value added increased by 11.9% year-on-year, higher than the average level of 10.1% of all industries. From the growth rate in November, the printing industry’s industrial value added growth rate of 6.7%, compared with 4.9% in the previous month, an increase of 1.8 percentage points, a more significant increase.

2, revenue and profit analysis

January-November 2021, the printing industry above-scale enterprises to achieve business revenue, an increase of 10.4%. During the same period, all industrial enterprises above the scale to achieve business income, up 20.3% year-on-year. Production and sales of the printing industry than the same period last year continued to recover, but the growth rate is lower than the national industrial average.

January-November 2021, the printing industry above-scale enterprises to achieve total profits, down 2.5% year-on-year, although up from -3.1% in the previous month, but has been in the negative growth range for three consecutive months. In the same period, all industrial enterprises above the scale of total profits, an increase of 38.0% year-on-year, an average of 18.9% over two years. 41 major industries, 33 industries to achieve total profit growth year-on-year, mining, raw materials manufacturing profit scale increased significantly. Closely related to the printing industry, the paper industry, January-November total profits increased by 13.9% year-on-year, although 2021 declined month by month throughout the year, but compared to the struggling printing industry in the negative growth range, there is still a world of difference.

Figure 2 shows the serious situation of the printing enterprises to increase revenue and reduce profits. Since May, the total profit growth rate has always been lower than the growth rate of operating income, to November, the speed difference between the two more than 10 percentage points.
